Community Working

Did you know that Sovereign Kingfisher is always working in your community in a huge variety of ways both for the young, the old and those in between!

Community involvement is what we are all about, we want to be an organisation that works with local people and other organisations in both town and rural areas. Check out our Community Events calendar to see whats coming next.

Some of the ways we are involved in your local community are:-

South Ham Fun Day Exhibitions and Information Days
Sovereign Kingfisher regularly hold 'information days' where not only our residents but the general public at large can find out more about all types of social rented or shared ownership housing or such things as how residents can work with local councils to recycle even more of their waste. Sovereign Kingfisher will be Balloons over Basingstoke this weekend on 6th and 7th August.

Road shows

As a result of feedback from you at the Residents' Conference and our focus groups Sovereign Kingfisher now hold repairs road shows. These are days when the surveyors, contractors, Housing Officers and Resident Involvement Officers for your area all come to your community. You can have minor repairs fixed there and then, book appointments, discuss any issues in your community or just ask us a question. If you would like a road show in your area please contact the Resident Involvement Team.
Family Fun Day - Skippetts Gardens August 2008 Family Fun Days
Various annual fetes or family fun days can be held on our estates. You could hold one and have a community clean up followed by a BBQ and bouncy castle, or a community halloween party. These events have proved a huge success, and a great time had by all, young and old!

Opening Ceremonies for New Homes
Where Sovereign Kingfisher build new homes, which create new communities, we often hold an 'opening' ceremony to welcome the new residents to the area.  As well as meeting other local people in the community, it is also a means of introducing Sovereign Kingfisher to other local organisations and promoting an awareness of how we are getting involved.
Area Resident Groups
A number of residents' groups meet in rural and town locations to discuss all sorts of things to do with their local community.  This encourages all residents to look after the environment in which they live and by working with other agencies, we can get things done with positive results for all.
Social Events at Schemes Social Events for the Elderly at our Sheltered Housing Schemes
Encouraging independent living and social interaction is a key part of our role as a landlord.  Our 7 sheltered housing schemes host various social events for local elderly residents including bingo, lunch clubs, tea dances, coach trips and fetes. If you have an idea for a social event please contact the Resident Involvement Team.

Money Advice Days

Events where agencies such as Citizens Advice Bureau, Credit Union, The Pensions Service, Age Concern, Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council and Sovereign Kingfisher are in one place for members of the community to get advice on benefits, debts, budgeting, housing, pensions and more. Previous events have been held in Basingstoke Town Centre and Buckskin, Basingstoke and Sovereign Kingfisher plan to hold Welfare Benefit Days in other communities once a quarter. The next one is coming up in Hythe on Saturday 18th September.
Residents' Conference
Residents are our main customers and we need to know what services they require and how we can improve those services.  We hold Residents' Conferences where residents can come together to discuss all sorts of issues, which Sovereign Kingfisher can then strive to work towards.
Working with Local Organisations
We routinely work with a variety of organisations on a number of community events. Last summer we worked with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to run summer holiday evening 'diversionary' sports events for local youngsters, which were a roaring success.

Talk and Walks

Estate Walkabouts have changed; instead of having a set route around the estate, residents can meet with their Housing Officer at a venue and raise any issues within particular areas such as; abandoned cars, litter, graffiti etc before touring the affected area(s). Your Housing Officer can then address and monitor any issues to try and help prevent them from happening again.

Above is not an exhaustive list, but it demonstrates how Sovereign Kingfisher's staff and our Residents' Committee, which is run by residents, routinely gets involved in the community in many different ways, with excellent, positive and far reaching results.

If you have an idea of how we could get involved in your community, please call 0800 988 4858 and ask to speak to a member of the Marketing Team.
